Rain or shine, the Los Angeles Police Department doesn't let up when it comes to taking drunk drivers off the road.

Law requires that police vaguely inform people about upcoming DUI checkpoints, but the LAPD does you one better: They'll tell you exactly when and where they'll be. The department argues that publicizing its efforts will dissuade many of you from getting behind the wheel after one too many.

The LAPD says its checkpoint and DUI patrol warnings are “a proven effective method to lower” the number of inebriated motorists on L.A. streets. Here then, is the 411 for this weekend:

]

-Tonight from 4 p.m. to midnight extra patrol cars and motorcycle units will be on the streets of the LAPD's Central Bureau area, which includes downtown, Westlake, Echo Park, the Eastside and Northeast L.A. (Boyle Heights, Highland Park, Eagle Rock), and part of South L.A. and Silver Lake. The department calls it a “saturation patrol.”

-Friday from 5 p.m. to 1 a.m. a saturation patrol will hit the LAPD's Southwest Division area, which includes the communities around USC as well as part of South L.A.

-Friday from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. a DUI checkpoint will be waiting for you on Huntington Drive at Poplar Boulevard in El Sereno.

-Saturday from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. the LAPD will be operating a checkpoint on Sepulveda Boulevard at Parthenia Place in wonderful North Hills.

-Sunday from 5 p.m. to 1 a.m. a saturation patrol will grace the LAPD's lovely Foothill Division area of the San Fernando Valley.

Be safe.
