If City Controller Wendy Greuel has her way you'll soon be able to see a website that lists the salaries of Los Angeles municipal employees. In the wake of the Bell salary scandal, in which the city manager there was discovered to be making nearly $800,000 a year, Greuel said she asked her staff to create the site.

“I am taking steps to ensure openness and transparency in our own city salary system,'' Greuel wrote in a letter Monday to Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa.

“At the end of the day, we all work for the citizens of Los Angeles and it is their right to know how their tax dollars are being spent,'' she wrote.

She wants such a site to be searchable and to contain salaries “for all city positions.”
