How hip is the Hollywood Bowl? Hip enough to flood its summer schedule with everything from world-music titan Baaba Maal to the pyrotechnic R&B of Earth Wind & Fire(works), with the Neil Patrick Harris–directed Rent in between, and disco's own Donna Summer on Opening Night of the Hollywood Bowl's 2010 Season . The kickoff ceremonies honor '70s soft-rockers the Carpenters and French pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet, with Herb Albert of the Tijuana Brass hosting, but it's the live set by Miss “Hot Stuff” herself that's sure to dim all the lights and make you feel love. Soon to come: madass masters of electronica the Chemical Brothers and their little-bro techno sidekicks, Chromeo; the precious Hall and Oats covers of The Bird and the Bee; the jazz fizz of Gustavo Dudamel conducting Gershwin and Bernstein; a Sound of Music sing-along, a Grease sing-along, and an Abba tribute with Men Alive: the Orange County Gay Men's Chorus; and a typically tremendous assortment of classical masterworks by the L.A. Philharmonic.
