It's that time of year — People magazine has named Channing Tatum their Sexiest Man Alive. But the decision hasn't gone over well: Whitney Jefferson of Buzzfeed called Tatum a “gyrating human potato.” Amanda Hess of Slate described him as “bland. Traditional. Republican in a Democratic year.”

But we, for one, are on board with this bland potato. We find Channing Tatum downright sexy, too. Here are a few reasons why:

1. He can dance

Men who can dance are a rare commodity. Sure, there's always the dude at weddings who busts out a worm on the portable wooden floor, and most guys can manage a respectable slow dance without stepping on your feet or abjectly butchering the rhythm. But to actually be able to grab hold of a strap and spin and then gyrate your hips to the music as demonstrated by Tatum in “Magic Mike”? Hugely uncommon.

2. The abs

So…yeah.

3. He seems like a good sport

Channing Tatum was a male stripper and then he made a movie about male stripping. A movie that was funny, and featured good dancing, and didn't take itself too seriously. There's a guy who isn't afraid of what people think of him.

4. “Magic Mike” was his idea

Men who determine their own destinies are sexy in a pioneer kind of way. Like if you had lived in the 1800s they would have been able to get you all the way to California in a covered wagon. It's hunter/gatherer sexy with a modern twist.

5. He's humble

People magazine writes:

He may have bared (almost) all of that incredibly chiseled body in this year's Magic Mike but 2012's Sexiest Man Alive Channing Tatum was still modest when he heard the news.

“My first thought was, 'Y'all are messing with me,'” says Tatum…

OK fine, that's what they all say. They have to say it. But on Tatum, humility just looks so good.
