The monthly hip-hop happening known as Boombox blasts some X-tra ballistic beats this week, with NYC rhythm rebel Rob Swift making a West Coast wax attack. Formerly a driving force behind the raucous grooves of The X-ecutioners crew, Swift’s scratch and quick-mix assaults are legendary. Since going solo, the turntable pro’s been doing his thing on tour and in clubs, most recently to promote his DVD As the Tables Turn, a chronicle of his DJ career. The flick looks fierce, but Swift’s skillz are best experienced up close and personal, and Chinatown’s durable dive Grand Star should provide just the setting for his brand of deck drama. Also with residents Inka One, Rob C and Ben Diggin. Grand Star Jazz Club, 943 N. Broadway, Chinatown; Sat., June 2, 10 p.m.-2 a.m.; over 21; $5 before 10:30 p.m., $10 after. (213) 626-2285.
