These days in California, we'd be up shit creek if only there was water in it. And falling squarely in the “no shit” category of contemporary issues is the title of a speech by Jeffrey Kightlinger, general manager of the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California: Water Is Serious Business. Last year was the driest on record for the brownish-golden state, and the governor's recommended cuts in consumption have yielded only a fraction of the desired conservation. Kightlinger will discuss the crisis, offer solutions on the MWD's part and answer questions such as: Was it the MWD or the DWP that just had that scandal? What number can I call to drop a dime on my neighbor and his leaky sprinklers? Are people really getting busted in L.A. by their HOAs for putting in drought-resistant landscaping? And how do you save water yourself, Mr. Kightlinger? Now in its 76th year of Angeleno advocacy, Town Hall L.A. is needed now more than ever — especially for those citizens who didn't even know there was someplace that gives a shit.
