After 111 days, the Porter Ranch gas leak appears to be over. (Fingers crossed.) Southern California Gas still must seal off the damaged well with cement, and the state Division of Oil, Gas and Geothermal Resources still must certify that the well has been officially killed.

But it sure looks as if the leak has been stopped. Above is infrared video taken by the California Air Resources Board, which shows the flow of gas coming to an abrupt halt at about 7:45 a.m. on Thursday. The video is sped up, showing seven minutes of time in about 24 seconds.

And here's what it looked like on fenceline.org/porter, a site set up to monitor the gas levels at Porter Ranch.
law logo2x bAs you can see, right around 8 a.m. on Thursday there was a dramatic drop, and methane has now settled in at what is considered a normal background level.

Several methane monitoring systems are still active, however, in case anything changes.
