Streaming Pick 1With the hearings for Ketanji Brown Jackson, the first Black woman nominated for the Supreme Court this week, and the accomplishments of women in entertainment sure to be recognized at this week’s Academy Awards, women’s contributions are on the cultural forefront more than ever. Women’s History Month feels particularly powerful and celebratory right now, in this moment. Prime Video’s VOICES: Women Innovating Hollywood should serve as an inspiring punctuation as the month winds down.  The two-hour virtual event features the voices of women in front of and behind the camera. Group panels and specials highlighting Lizzo and her new show Watch Out For The Big Grrrls should be highlights. The show features the chart-topping singer and her search for body-confident, bad-ass women to be her new back-up dancers.

Other participants in the online event include Al-Baab Khan (Project Specialist, USC Annenberg Inclusion Initiative, Angelique Midthunder (Casting Director), Bree Frank (President & Founder, Hue You Know / SVP of Production – Unscripted, Hello Sunshine), Carla Hool (Casting Director), Dr. Katherine Pieper (Program Director, USC Annenberg Inclusion Initiative), Gia Peppers (Black Girl Podcast) and many more. As Latasha Gillespie, head of Global DEI at Amazon Studios, Prime Video says via press materials, “Data shows that women, particularly women of color, are often left out of the ‘diversity conversation’ as other underrepresented groups tend to over-index. I’m happy that this event series centers and amplifies the voices of women of color and allows for a forum to celebrate progress made and openly push for more.”

Watch ‘Lizzo’s Watch Out for the Big Girls’ on Prime Video now.

Join the VOICES online event, Fri., March 25, 1 p.m. PST (free) at Amazon Live and Prime Video’s YouTube channel.
