San Francisco's Aesop Rock returns to rap with a stunner of a remix (and video) in which he name-checks Sailor Moon, does the sprinkler, and “butchers” the work of Philadelphia psych-rock band Grimace Federation.

The original is a Jaga Jazzist-like instrumental, but in Aes' very capable hands, it becomes a moody, groove-steeped psych-rap soup, with a horn section that can't help but bring to mind OutKast's “SpottieOpieDopalicious.”

The rapper calls his version “Bosico (butchered by Aesop Rock,” and he does indeed kill it, proving once again that he's handily adept at holding attentions rapt over two verses sans parlor tricks or guest appearances.

The video, by Alexander Tarrant and Justin Metros, features shots of San Francisco as Aes and friends ride around in a van, reading comics and doing outmoded dance moves.
