Life is apparently quite sweet for the young lads of Local Natives.

The Silver Lake via Orange County quintet signed to French Kiss Records last year, and has been getting loads of winning press since releasing its LP debut, Gorilla Manor, in February.

Among the comparisons that have been bandied about: Fleet Foxes (harmonic chops), Arcade Fire (epic sound), Grizzly Bear (erudite artsiness) and Vampire Weekend.

The justification for the last name on that list is, now, twofold: an unconcealed love not for the guitar styles and rhythms of Highlife music, but for the high life itself.

In the just-released video for “World News,” Local Natives don their aristocratic best for a seaside romp that seems to take place in the world of Wes Anderson's Steve Zissou.

The stylistic nod to Anderson should come as no surprise to those familiar with Lessner's work, nor should the blue blood theme.

His 2009 clip for Fool's Gold's “Surprise Hotel” featured an array of odd characters indulging themselves, and the video for Foreign Born's “Early Warnings” starred a couple of explorers out on a mission to discover new members of the animal kingdom.

But Lessner's tack isn't simple homage. Like Local Natives, he channels his influences into something bright and original.
