In a brand new video directed by Antoine Wagner (Phoenix's “Lisztomania”), we get a first glimpse at the new record from Rain Phoenix's Papercranes project, via the song “Synapses.”

The older sister of Joaquin takes a much different tack than her brother (so relax, guy), spinning arrestingly gorgeous folk-pop with a slightly psychedelic touch. Plus, some orchestral grandeur for good measure.

Papercranes dates back to 2003 — and Rain has performed with R.E.M. and the Red Hot Chili Peppers among others — but the upcoming Let's Make Babies in the Woods will only be the band's second LP, and it's due January 24 on Manimal.

Word is the nine-song album was recorded in an L.A. garage with a handful of musically inclined friends (we're willing to bet Flea slapped a few notes for it). The Manimal Vinyl site tells us to expect “darker themes,” “rebellious melody and angry rhythms.” We like.
