Three years ago a certain city councilman traded Ed Ruscha's outdoor Venice workspace for a handful of parking spots. Let's be grateful that the organizers of Venice Art Walk, the Venice Family Clinic's annual fundraiser, were not informed that art was out in Venice. This year, Art Walk enters its 33rd year with new features and old favorites at every price point. It kicks off with a free party and silent auction of fully decked-out skateboards and surfboards at Bergamot Station's Track 16. Prepare to fork out cash for either type; some are functional forms, others earn installation space in office entrances or private homes. Saturday, it's the deluxe architectural tour. Finish it up with Sunday's traditional Studio Tour, where walkers enter real Venice. In that vein, we'll tout the spaces of three friends: Greg Falk, who financed the purchase of his first Venice home by selling his car and now opens a pavilion with glorious oversized hinged doors to the tour; Lynn Hanson, whose recent work drew props from Ruscha himself; and Laddie John Dill, who opens his new digs for the first time to Art Walkers. Sunday's silent auction features a slew of known names, while the exquisite “Art Within Reach” limited-edition print collection showcases 15 emerging artists. You'll find us there, at Westminster School, staking out work.
