California's State Supreme Court begins hearing arguments for and against overturning Proposition 8, the same-sex marriage ban approved by voters last November. The state's high court will issue its decision within 90 days. The San Francisco proceedings, based on three separate cases challenging the measure, are expected to last through noon. They will be televised and streamed live via the California Channel. At least three viewing parties will be held in L.A. today, listed below. Fashion tip: Don't wear Yes on 8 T-shirts.

  • West Hollywood: West Hollywood Park Auditorium, 647 N. San Vicente Blvd.; begins 9 a.m. Sponsored by the city of WeHo, Lambda Legal, L.A .Gay and Lesbian Center, ACLU and National Center for Lesbian Rights. 

  • Hollywood: Renberg Theater, L.A. Gay and Lesbian Center at The Village, 1125 N. McCadden Place.

  • Downtown: City Council Chamber, third floor, City Hall, 200 Spring St., begins 8:30 a.m. Councilmen Bill Rosendahl and Eric Garcetti open the event with remarks; attorneys from Lambda Legal will be present to answer questions. Event concludes with a press conference, approx. 12:30 p.m.
