The Architecture + Design Museum continues its annual tradition of staging big, risky summer group shows with “COME IN! les femmes.” The follow-up to “COME IN! A Spatial Intervention” and “COME IN! Surf.Skate.Bike,” “les femmes” features some 25 architects, product and furniture designers, installation and mixed-media artists, and free-range thinkers — all of the lady variety. That's a lot of diverse work to organize, but the A+D people aren't worried. “The beauty of the exhibition is that none of the work has been created yet, and there are no rules!” But a perusal of the studio work of the invitees yields some fascinating clues. Tanya Aguiniga's textiles, installations and furniture designs focus on unusual materials, conceptual twists and community experiences. Jennifer Wolf creates ambitious, evocative installations that function in space like sculpture but ultimately remain paintings. Elizabeth Paige Smith's progressive, sensual furniture and her allegorical photography find the sexy, soft-spoken beauty in everyday life. Minarc Architecture Studio's focus on sustainability coexists with an exuberant, sophisticated embrace of avant-garde aesthetics. Lilliana Castro moves freely between the worlds of architecture and graphic design, embodying the idea of cross-platform pollination and holistic creativity in visual culture that defines the A+D's raison d'etre. Vive la difference! A+D Museum. 6032 Wilshire Blvd.; Thurs., July 12, 6-9 p.m.; exhibit runs Tues.-Fri., 11 a.m.-5 p.m., Sat.-Sun., noon-6 p.m., thru Sept. 8; $20 for reception, $10 students.
