56-Year-Old Dead in Pedestrian Accident near 4th Street

BAKERSFIELD, CA (August 23, 2022) – On Saturday night, Vivian Lajoy Pope died after a hit-and-run collision on Union Avenue.

The incident happened at around 9:47 p.m. in the 400 block of Union Avenue near 4th Street.

According to investigators, Pope was walking in the area outside of the crosswalk, when she was struck by a dark sedan. The collision left Pope with serious injuries. The driver of the sedan left the scene without rendering aid to the victim.

Emergency crews were dispatched to the site of the accident shortly after. They pronounced 56-year-old Pope from Bakersfield dead at the scene.

At this time, Bakersfield Officials are working to identify the hit-and-run driver.
