While daydreaming about food and wine during their corporate advertising jobs in Manhattan, Danielle Francois and Jennifer Moore decided to ditch the daily grind and move across country to open casual wine bar, Vintage Enoteca. The Hollywood bar on Sunset Boulevard, which opened yesterday, is not pretentious, said co-owner Francois. “We don't want people to feel like they need to go to a restaurant and have a big three course meal. The portions here are smaller, and we encourage people to be adventurous.”

New York-based sommelier Sarah Sutel, and chef Paul Dozois, who has worked in the kitchens of Tom Colicchio, Wolfgang Puck, and Jose Andres, molded the food and wine menus. Shared plates and small bites include house-made pickles, Parmesan-stuffed Medjool dates, panini, and an assortment of cheeses and charcuterie. The wine collection includes selections from Italy, France, Spain, Austria, California, and Washington. We don't know about you, but a Spanish grilled cheese with chorizo and piquillo peppers, and a glass of Merlot sounds pretty good right now.

Vintage Enoteca: 7554 W. Sunset Blvd., Los Angeles; (323) 512-5278.
