Cyclist Killed in Bicycle Accident near Cypress Avenue

SAN MATEO COUNTY, CA (October 3, 2022) – Wednesday morning, Vincent Qualls was arrested after a fatal bicycle collision on Highway 1.

The incident occurred around 11:30 a.m., near Cypress Avenue.

According to the California Highway Patrol, a southbound Hino box truck veered onto the northbound lanes and collided with a bicyclist. The driver then struck a tree before coming to rest alongside the road.

Due to the extent of injuries sustained, responding officials declared the 55-year-old bicyclist from Peninsula, dead at the scene.

Meanwhile, authorities arrested 55-year-old Qualls, of Oakland on suspicion of involuntary manslaughter with gross manslaughter. Qualls also sustained moderate injuries, that required medical transport.
