Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa just announced he will not run for California governor on Wolf Blitzer's The Situation Room on CNN, with a backdrop of the Los Angeles Magazine cover emblazoned with the word “Failure.” The mayor says he plans to focus on the major economic problems facing L.A., and refused to say whether he will back California Attorney Jerry Brown or San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom.

Brown has to be the happiest man in the state today. Polls show Brown beating all other likely Democrats except for the consistently popular Senator Dianne Feinstein. No mention, by Wolfy, of the first major profile to look into the mayor's failures in Los Angeles, “The All About Me Mayor,” by Patrick Range McDonald, which has taken on a life of its own.
