Village Bakery and Cafe in Atwater Village is preparing its scariest (well, cute-scary) lineup ever of confections and pastries for its now annual homage to All Hallows Eve: 13 Days of Halloween. Starting tomorrow, Oct. 19, the bakery will unveil a different Halloween-themed treat each day.

Confections include skeleton gingerbread men, ghost meringues, monster eyeballs, Day of the Dead skull cookies and witches' fingers. New this year is the vanilla zombie cookie (in homage to AMC's The Walking Dead), which debuts Oct. 21 and will be on sale through Nov. 1. Price per treat ranges from $1 to $5.

“This is my absolute favorite time of year,” says Barbara Monderine, owner and baker. “Halloween is so much fun here, and we love coming up with over-the-top ideas.” She warns that the Halloween treats sell out fast, but you can order them in advance (323-662-8600).
