After the 4th of July mishap on San Diego Bay — a story that echoed around the world — disappointment was rampant. Finger-pointing went viral.

Viewers, in fact, were treated to something much more rare — the sights and sounds of an unintentional explosion of fireworks at three barges and one pier that will probably remain unprecedented in contemporary times.
