Mushroom supplements have become a hot topic recently, fuelled by a surge in the health and wellness industry.

Humans have consumed various species of mushrooms for millennia, with some civilizations discovering their health potential early on. Now, armed with science, the Western world has come to recognize the various benefits of mushrooms.

That said, for all their health properties, mushrooms are controversial. Many people, including myself, don’t like the taste and unusual texture. I know that different species are supposedly different in their flavor, but I find mushrooms, on the whole, to be rubbery. So how does someone like me reap the benefits of edible fungi? The answer is clear: capsules.

VidaCap is one of the hottest mushroom supplement brands on the market right now, offering tasteless, straightforward capsules packed full of mushroom goodness. I tried these products to discover how beneficial mushrooms can really be.

Mushroom Capsules Are All the Rage

There are plenty of reasons to incorporate mushrooms into your diet. On the whole, mushrooms tend to be high in beneficial compounds called beta-glucans (or b-glucans), which can support a healthy immune system. Notably, humans cannot produce these compounds naturally, which means we have to get them from our diet.

Furthermore, mushrooms are low in calories but high in other nutrients like vitamin D, fiber, and more. Specific species of mushrooms can provide other benefits. For example, crimini mushrooms are full of zinc, while lion’s mane is relatively high in protein.

The VidaCap brand sells organic mushroom capsules loaded with mushroom powder. There are options to purchase singular mushrooms and a blend specifically designed for sleep. While there are other brands out there, the VidaCap blend is an exciting product that I couldn’t find elsewhere. As a result, it already seems to be excelling in the category of mushroom capsules.

About VidaCap

The brand itself is based in America, though it grows mushrooms in China and Russia. Specifically, the Chaga mushrooms come from Russia and the rest from China. VidaCap grows them in a closed greenhouse system, with an emphasis on natural cultivation and organic products.

After the harvest, VidaCap’s growers dry the mushrooms in the sun before they are ground into a powder to be used in the capsules. They do not use mushroom extract, believing that the whole plant is the most beneficial way to consume mushrooms.

It’s worth noting that VidaCap uses the fruiting bodies of the mushrooms rather than the mycelium. According to the research I did before trying mushroom supplements, the fruiting bodies are much more nutritious and beneficial, so this is a good thing. However, the FAQ does state that the cordyceps powder comes from the mycelium due to this species’ unique growing habits.

VidaCap’s mushroom growing process seems great, but the thing that really sold me was the lab testing. This brand tests every batch of mushrooms for quality assurance, testing for heavy metals and microorganisms, and ensuring a high level of purity with every product. A lot of supplement brands don’t bother with this step, although it’s a crucial one.

Another thing I loved was the customer service. VidaCap offers a flat rate of shipping throughout the USA, at the cost of $5. After ordering, you have 30 days to return the product and receive a full refund, even if you have opened and sampled the product. This is part of VidaCap’s satisfaction guarantee. It’s an extra layer of assurance that you’re getting your money’s worth.

What Products Are VidaCap Offering?

VidaCap currently offers two product types: Pure Mushrooms and Mushroom Blends. The former consists of organic mushroom capsules that contain a singular species. VidaCap currently sells:

  • Lion’s Mane
  • Chaga
  • Turkey Tail
  • Cordyceps
  • Reishi

Each one consists of a bottle with 60 capsules, each pill containing 750mg of mushroom powder. VidaCap has written helpful product descriptions on the website, explaining what each species does.

I tried the cordyceps mushrooms, which it says are good for energy, performance, and endurance. I frequent the gym a lot, so I thought this would be a great option for me. As it turns out, I did feel noticeably different after the first couple of days. My sets were longer, and I was lifting more weights – I can’t say whether it was placebo or not, but I did feel a change.

Meanwhile, the only Mushroom Blend currently in stock is the Sleep option. It contains a unique blend of reishi mushroom, valerian root, and melatonin. I gave this one to my partner, who has trouble sleeping. Again, it seemed to work quite well and promote a good night’s sleep.

One thing we loved about the VidaCap capsules was that they are vegetarian-friendly. I don’t eat much meat myself, so this was ideal for my diet.

Final Thoughts on VidaCap

All in all, I enjoyed trying the VidaCap products. They are reasonably priced, at under $30 for a bottle (just $24 for 60 Pure Mushroom capsules!), so I might even consider buying them again.

Given the quality of the mushrooms and capsules, the uniqueness of the mushroom blend, and the customer service, I would recommend VidaCap as one of the best organic mushroom capsule brands. Personally, I just look forward to what they bring out next.
