21-Year-Old Man Struck and Killed after Running Across Highway 99

FRESNO, CA (August 29, 2022) – Thursday evening, 21-year-old Vicente Ortega was killed in a pedestrian accident on Highway 99.

The incident happened around 10:10 p.m., just south of Highway 180. According to reports, police received reports of a nude man running along the highway.

Upon arrival, officers approached Ortega as he fled crossing into the southbound traffic lanes. There, he was struck by a 2019 Toyota Corolla.

Due to the impact of the crash, the male victim sustained life-threatening injuries. Medics later pronounced 21-year-old Ortega dead at the scene.

Meanwhile, the 78-year-old driver of the Corolla, and his 50-year-old passenger, stayed at the scene of the incident and cooperated with investigators. Crews say the occupants of the Corolla remained uninjured.

At this time, no further details about the pedestrian crash are available. However, California Highway Patrol will release more information as it becomes available.
