37-Year-Old Man Fatally Struck in Hit-and-Run Collision on Bethany Home Road

GLENDALE, AZ (March 3, 2022) – Wednesday night, 37-year-old Vernell Whiterock was killed in a hit-and-run crash near 59th Avenue.

The deadly collision happened around 9:40 p.m., near 59th Avenue and Bethany Home Road.

Per reports, a man was struck by a vehicle while crossing the street in an unmarked crosswalk. After the impact, the involved driver fled the scene without rendering aid to the severely injured victim.

Due to the impact of the crash, the male pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities later identified him as Vernell Whiterock.

Officers were not able to locate the runaway driver and his vehicle. However, police described the car as a “2013 to 2019 silver Nissan Sentra with windshield and front-end damage.”

The surrounding area was closed off for a brief time during cleanup and preliminary duties before it was later reopened.
