Dennis RomeroA man and his son were shot outside their home in Venice following a road rage incident last night, police said.
The pair were hospitalized in stable condition, LAPD Officer Rosario Herrera told us. The attack happened after the father got into a traffic incident with suspects in a silver Toyota four-door that had cut him off as he rode his motorcycle in Venice, an LAPD detective told us.
The traffic beef started about 7:20 p.m. somewhere in Venice, he said.
Herrera said the motorcycle rider, a man in his 50s, was followed home and that the attack happened about an hour later, at 8:15 p.m.
The suspect in the car, along with three to four others, confronted the man and his son in his 20s at or near their home on Indiana Street near Lincoln Boulevard, the detective said, with one suspect squeezing the trigger.
Herrera said several rounds were fired.
Herrera said the attack was gang-related. We asked the detective if the suspects, described as African American, were members of Venice's only black gang, the Shoreline Crips.
The detective said the investigation was really just getting underway and that the answer wasn't clear yet.
No suspects were in custody.
