For at least the third weekend in a row violence broke out on the sands of Venice. This time someone was stabbed during the Venice “drum circle” festivities that take place Sunday afternoons.

Last weekend fighting broke out in the drum circle one day after a man was shot and critically wounded in what many believed was a gang related attack near Ocean Front Walk.

Sunday night's stabbing put a young man in the hospital in stable condition, according to Yo! Venice!

According to Venice 311 the sunset attack happened only minutes before police descended on the circle to break it up.

A witness told cameraman/journalist Tony Vera the victim was stabbed in the abdomen following a fight.

Astonishingly, the suspect was described as a tattooed man “carrying a big drum,” according to the site.

The attacker remained at large.

Both websites are echoing community demands that something be done about the violence, especially since it wasn't even that hot this weekend — and the crime season of summer has yet to begin.

Venice 311:

Violence, alcohol and drug abuse has been increasing during the Sunday drum circles. Local residents and Ocean Front Walk businesses want the event shut down or dispersed early in the afternoon because of the violence, and lingering violent activity along Ocean Front Walk.
