Cops on Friday announced a suspect was quickly arrested following the stabbing death of a man on the Venice boardwalk near Westminster Boulevard.

The attack happened following an argument and fight between two guys Thursday at 6:05 p.m., according to the LAPD.

The victim was not identified, but police said Friday afternoon that 23-year-old Billy Young has been booked on suspicion of murder. In fact …

… police say ” … Young attempted to run, but was caught several blocks away by diligent patrol officers who listened to the crime broadcast.”

The Los Angeles Times reported the victim had been stabbed 8 or 9 times and was later pronounced dead at a Marina Del Rey hospital.

A coroner's official told the Weekly the victim was a 38-year-old man; he could not release his identity until next of kin was notified.

What was the fight over? There's some speculation at the website Yo! Venice that the parties were homeless people, but we could not confirm it. We'll sniff around.

Added: An LAPD sarge told City News Service that both men appeared to be transients.
