Driver Arrested after Dragging Motorcyclist near Sedgemoore Drive
SANTA ROSA, CA (October 3, 2022) – Charles Bernhardy was arrested and Vance Stammer was killed in a hit-and-run crash.
Police received dispatch calls around 8:54 p.m., at the intersection of Fountaingrove Parkway and Sedgemoore Drive.
As per reports, Bernhardy was driving a pickup-truck when he rear-ended a motorcyclist. Upon impact, Bernhardy kept driving westbound on Fountaingrove while dragging the motorcyclist.
Bernhardy continued until he collided with a Honda Accord whose driver was turning right onto Sedgemoore Drive. The Honda received minor damage.
Responding officers discovered the rider, 23-year-old Stammer of Santa Rosa, in critical condition and transported him to a hospital for treatment. Stammer was on life support until he was taken off and pronounced dead.
Police believe the hit-and-run driver stopped at Mendocino Avenue and fled on foot. Charles Bernhardy was later arrested at his home on suspicion of hit-and-run and driving under the influence.
