Two cousins who allegedly robbed a Valentine's gift stand near downtown early Sunday led police on a subsequent vehicle pursuit that ended with the pair dying in a crash.

It started about 4:30 a.m Sunday when armed suspects robbed a street-side gift vendor at Adams Boulevard and San Pedro St., police said. They allegedly continued to circle the area in a car — perhaps to find other victims — and a patrol unit from the Los Angeles Police Department's Newton Division spotted the pair's vehicle and gave chase.

Only a few blocks away, at Central Avenue and 27th Street, the Nissan the pair was riding in smacked into a parked bobtail truck, and both suspects were thrown from the car. They were pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities later identified the two as 18-year-old Charlie Francisco and his 20-year-old cousin, Christian Francisco.

The stand on Adams Boulevard sells Valentine's-themed baskets for as much as $50, according to Fox 11 News. A vendor told the station it wasn't the first time robbers had hit the location.
