Cannabidiol has been around for a while now and it is all over the place. Doctors recommend it for anxiety, pain, inflammation, and the treatment of many other conditions. You might have also read or heard about it being used to induce sleep.

Why use CBD for sleeplessness when you have other medicines?

The main reason for substituting medicines like Lunesta and Rozerem are its side effects. The side effects of these medicines are severe and include excessive drowsiness, impaired thinking, night wandering, agitation, and balance problems. Some people have also reported having suffered from allergy, swelling and behaviors like driving, eating etc during sleep.

To avoid the side effects of these medicines, many use antihistamines to calm down the body- which will eventually lead to sleep. However, even though it is a better option, antihistamines have their own set of side effects like blurred vision, drowsiness and dry mouth.

So, using CBD for sleep seems like a good option especially since it does not have any adverse side effects.

If you are someone who cannot sleep at night due to stress, CBD might be what you need, especially since using CBD for anxiety and stress has been proved to be beneficial. With negative thoughts and other concerns out of your mind, your body will relax and gradually fall asleep.

Using CBD for sleep in elderly people is common, especially for those who are suffering from pain. CBD prevents the brain from sensing the signals sent from the painful area-thereby not registering the pain. Older people go through a lot of pain due to the different diseases they suffer from.

Research On CBD

In one of the studies conducted on CBD and sleep reported that it was only effective when taken in doses more than 160 milligrams. When taken in lesser amounts, CBD had the opposite effect on people- it kept them awake.

However, another research in 2019 was performed on 72 subjects- of which 47 were suffering from anxiety and the rest from insomnia. When treated with 25 milligrams of CBD, 79.2 percent reported lesser anxiety and 66.7 percent said they could sleep better.

As said before, pain is also a factor causing loss of sleep. Several studies conducted proved the same. A review published in 2018 in the Frontiers in Pharmacology spotted that CBD’s reduction of pain helped people fall asleep. It was also noticed to be successful in treating REM sleep behavior disorder (RBD) which is seen people suffering from Parkinson’s disease.

Aside from making you fall asleep, CBD can help control daytime sleepiness and grogginess. Many use CBD oil for sleep since it can be administered easily and is quickly effective.
