Dennis RomeroUSC and UCLA barely made the top 25 of U.S. News & World Report's annual Best Colleges rankings, but the crosstown rivals seem to do just find in other contests (and we're not just talking football and basketball).
The London Times' Higher Education rankings recently placed UCLA at number 9 — one spot ahead of Yale — among the world's top universities.
Wow. But wait, there's more:
The Princeton Review's “College Hopes and Worries Survey,” just released this week, found USC and UCLA in top 10 rankings: its “colleges most named by students as their dream college” list and its “colleges most named by parents as their dream college for their children” list, according to a Princeton statement.
On the kids' list UCLA came in at number 6 and USC rounded out the top 10.
On the parents' list USC came in at number 10 and UCLA was a no show. (This seems backwards. Isn't USC the party school and UCLA the nerd school? We're confused).

This could help explain it:
A slight majority of parents (51 percent) favored a school less than 250 miles from home; a vast majority of prospective students (67 percent) wanted to be more than 250 miles from home.
And USC is so much closer to Orange County. (We kid, but it's true).
