Update: We told you you'd have to keep monitoring the tap list yourselves, but we caved and decided to give you a hand. Here's the list of confirmed Pliny the Younger appearances as it stands right now: Verdugo Bar, Wednesday, February 16 at 6 p.m.; Hops and Barley (in Temecula), Saturday, February 19; and The Surly Goat, Tuesday, February 15. The Library Alehouse could not confirm a date, but hinted that it would be in the middle of their HopHead Heaven series, which runs February 14-24. Much as it pains us to tell you, we know it's the right thing to do, as long as you don't finish the keg before we get there.

The original post, published Friday, February 4:

The hop heads are anxious. They are muttering over their Racer 5, can't sit still for a Sculpin. Even Bell's Hopslam may as well be buried in ash, because Pliny the Younger is on his way.

Today, beer geeks from across the nation will flock to Russian River Brewing Company in Santa Rosa (Northern California) for the annual release of their much-celebrated Triple India Pale Ale, Pliny the Younger.

The nephew of Pliny the Elder, the legendary beer that is the standard by which all Double IPAs are judged, Pliny the Younger is known for being even hoppier and less restrained than the already powerful DIPAs. Last year, this citrusy, piney, 11% ABV monster of a beer flew out of kegs at record speed, so this year the brewery has a strict daily ration at their tap room, scheduled to last exactly two weeks.

They will not bottle this historical figure, so if you're looking for a taste without striking out for the Bay, you'll have to keep monitoring the tap list at local beer havens like the Surly Goat, the Library Alehouse, Naja's Place, or Father's Office. Look for it around here sometime in the next week or so, but act fast because hop heads will show no mercy.
