[Updated] Sex and the Kitchen in Development at Bravo

Update: (11:49 a.m.) It's been announced that Kat Odell, editor of Eater L.A., will star in the show, and it's rumored that Brenda Urban from PR firm Wagstaff Worldwide and chef Waylynn Lucas of Fonuts will join the cast as well. More details to come as we discover them.

Remember yesterday when we celebrated the fact that food television is keeping its priorities straight and focusing on actual culinary skill? Well, that just got blown to pieces by a press release from Bravo announcing Sex and the Kitchen, a new series currently in development.

Almost no information has been released so far. All Bravo can tell us is: “This docu-series follows a group of single, successful and beautiful women connected to the restaurant and food industry in Los Angeles as they juggle a world where business always mixes with pleasure.”

So basically, kitchen prostitutes? We're confused. Are they sauteeing with one hand and whacking off waiters with the other? Why must business “always” mix with pleasure for these women? Because they're pretty, unmarried and succeeding in a male-dominated industry? There's no way Bravo would ever deliberately seek out attractive, powerful women and take them down a peg by reducing them to little more than beddable sirens.

Would it?

No word yet on who's been cast, but we'll keep our eyes peeled. For now, we're going to assuage our disgust with the one silver lining that's emerged from this announcement, which is the excuse to listen to this R. Kelly jam on repeat.
