Dispatch from Saturday morning, before the fair started:

And…here we go again. The Sunset Junction Street Fair hasn't started yet (vendors are still setting up) and the “gate” (i.e., the barricade on Sunset and Fountain) situation is already a mess.

Many residents of Sunset Junction have not been issued passes, tickets or writsbands so they are already (by 10:30 AM) faced with security guards who won't let them in their homes.

We personally witnessed a situation at the gate, solely manned by a wiry guy with a mohawk and pot-leaf-ornamented sunglasses, where residents of the area were not allowed in, while a couple of minutes later some people on bicycles just went by him not paying attention to his intimations to stop.

When asked where his bosses or anyone in charge of admissions were, the wiry guy smiled and said he had no idea.

Great.

Now, we're not haters–we really want this to work out and people to have fun, but early indications show the entrance situation here, particularly for residents, might be the usual shitshow it has been since the Sunset Junction Fair stopped being free.
