Umami at the Grove opened today at 11 a.m., bringing the number of locations in the chain to 12, plus Umamicatessen. The new location is the chain's flagship.

Says owner Adam Fleischman, “This is the start of more local food at the Grove, the mall that put Mid-City on the map.”

The space, in the former Wonderland Bakery location, was designed by Kanner Architects. The website uses a bunch of fun words to describe the space, including “ubiquitous pickled blonde wood,” which was totally the name of my high school band but in this case is probably just a creative description of a wall.

There are a couple of new menu items at the new location, including a truffle burger that's different from the truffle burgers at the other locations, plus Umami chips and Umami milkshakes.
