Caltech, a perennial top school for Times Higher Education, came in ninth. And UCLA came in 10th. The Westwood school dropped two spots after ranking eighth last year (which was up from ninth in 2012).

… ended up in a tied bracket that that included places 61 through 70 on the list.
A UCLA spokesman noted that the university is the second-ranked public school on the list, behind No. 6 UC Berkeley. He told us:
UCLA consistently performs well on a wide variety of rankings and is widely recognized among the top research universities in the world.
Harvard, MIT and Stanford were the top three.
In 2012 Caltech ranked first on another Times Higher Education list, its World University Rankings.
The publication says this week's reputation rankings were calculated “based on responses from about 10,500 leading peer-reviewed academics in 133 countries.” They “were asked to nominate up to 15 of the best institutions in their field of expertise.”

The Times Higher Education rankings seem to be gaining respect, but the holy grail in the United States is the annual U.S. News Best Colleges ranking, where UCLA and USC tied for 23rd last year.
