Students at University of California campuses are outraged.

There's war in Afghanistan. The Occupy nation is trying to prevent big banks, many of which were bailed out by taxpayers, from foreclosing on American homes. And student fees and tuition have just about tripled in the last 10 years.

But what these collegians are really mad about is …

… design.

Yeah, they don't like the aesthetics of the new UC logo.

Here's the thing: The old logo will still remain. The new one will apply to websites.

Dianne Klein, spokeswoman for the 10-campus UC system, told the Los Angeles Times that the 1868 “Let There Be Light” logo will stay on diplomas and correspondence.

The Times paraphrases her:

… The old logo does not reproduce well in small size on Internet pages and that UC wanted something more visually contemporary and versatile, especially for online efforts to seek donations and recruit applicants.

These matchy-matchy kids aren't having though. According to a weekend change.org petition requesting that UC withdraw the logo:

The newly designed monogram of the University of California, while attempting to be modern, loses the prestige and elegance of the current seal.

Californiagoldenblogs.com says:

“The New University Of California Logo Needs To Die A Quick, Painful Death” and adds:

You wonder how people can be so clueless, so detached, so ignorant that they think they can just casually toss away a brand that has worked just fine for 140 years.
