An Uber driver was shot and injured after someone opened fire on two of his passengers in Venice today, police said.

It happened about 3:50 p.m. at Lucille and Louella avenues, Los Angeles Police Department Officer Mike Lopez told us. The driver, struck in an arm, was hospitalized in “stable” condition, he said.

Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics received a shooting report at 3:49 p.m. at about the same location, said spokesman Brian Humphrey. Someone was taken to a hospital, he said.

The unharmed passengers had weapons, Lopez said, and detectives were looking into the possibility one or both also opened fire. Cops might be dealing with a full-on shootout, he said.

The two might be gang members, Lopez said.

“Those two in the back seat were victims-slash-suspects,” he said. “The two were intended targets.”

Gang units were at the scene, he said.

It's not clear if the suspect who shot the driver was on foot or in a car, Lopez said.
