Uber has announced that new surcharges will take effect in both its rideshare and delivery services starting Wednesday, March 16.

The company said the new fees come in response to increased fuel prices across the country and will be applied for at least 60 days.

Riders can expect to see a new surcharge of either $0.45 or $0.55 per ride, depending on location. Similarly an Uber Eats surcharge of either $0.35 or $0.45 will be added to each order, with the 100% of the fees going toward the drivers.

“We know that prices have been going up across the economy, so we’ve done our best to help drivers and couriers without placing too much additional burden on consumers,” Liza Winship, Head of Driver Operations for U.S. and Canada said in an Uber news release. “Over the coming weeks we plan to listen closely to feedback from consumers, couriers and drivers. We’ll also continue to track gas price movements to determine if we need to make additional changes.”

After the 60 days of surcharges, Uber said it would “reassess .”

On March 15, the average price for a gallon of regular grade gasoline in California was $5.750, more than a dollar increase from a month ago, when the average price per gallon was $4.711, according to statistics provided by the American Automobile Association.
