If Los Angeles nightlife was redefined every time a bar opened that said it was “set to redefine L.A. nightlife,” we would have a very confused bar scene indeed. That said, two new bars are opening in October that aim pretty high in the game of redefining, whatever that means.

The first, which opens tomorrow, Oct. 5, on Sunset Blvd., is the Warwick, an outrageously over-the-top Hollywood bar and club. It's in the space that was once Club Lingerie, and the new co-owner, Jeffrey Best, claims that the new incarnation is an homage of sorts to that club. Perhaps this explains the giant full frontal photos of naked women that tower over the main room. The place has all kinds of bells and whistles, including a “tableside cocktail service,” which sounds like bottle service, where you are brought the ingredients to make your own drinks. There's an upstairs bar, a lot of fancy couches, and lots of artsy pictures of nude women. Sweet. 6507 W. Sunset Blvd., Los Angeles; 323-460-6667.

Honeycut, which opens downtown in the next week or so, is a collaboration between Cedd Moses and Eric Needleman of 213 Ventures (who own The Varnish and Seven Grand) and Alex Day and David Kaplan of Proprietors LLC, who own New York City's legendary Death & Co. The 3,000 square-foot bar will be located behind the O Hotel, and will be a cocktail bar but also a dance club. It will has two rooms, one called “The Cocktail Bar,” and one called “The Disco.” Bands and DJs will perform in the Disco. The people launching Honeycut are some of the most respected in the bar industry worldwide, so it will be super interesting to see how the cocktail/disco thing works out for them. 819 S. Flower St., Downtown; 213-688-0888.

Who will redefine the definition of what it means to define nightlife? Only time will tell.
