Los Angeles police this week served search warrants on two medical marijuana dispensaries, resulting in at least a few arrests, according to Los Angeles Police Department officials.

Six search warrants and three arrest warrants led cops to Medco Organics at 326 N. Vermont Ave. in Hollywood and The Relief Co. at 5669 W. Pico Blvd. in Wilshire Vista, police said. The raids happened Tuesday.

Medco was allegedly operating near a school, apparently prompting the search. Police would not give details on what led up to the The Relief Co.'s search warrant, but an investigation was involved in the raids of both dispensaries.

Pot, cash and even a gun were seized, police said. Further details, including the names and booking charges for the suspects, were not released.

Despite the state's allowance of medical marijuana, District Attorney Steve Cooley and City Attorney Carmen Trutanich have maintained that most of L.A.'s pot shops violate the law because they allegedly sell marijuana for a profit. State law allows for the nonprofit, collective cultivation and sharing of marijuana for the seriously ill.

Last month the City Attorney made a first step in an effort to shut down 21 dispensaries.
