2 Hospitalized after Wrong-Way Accident near East Victoria Drive

ALPINE, CA (March 1, 2022) – Early Thursday morning, at least two people sustained injuries in a wrong-way crash on Interstate 8.

The collision happened around 2:00 a.m., on the westbound lanes of the highway near East Victoria Drive.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident involved a gold Nissan Altima and a blue compact car. The Altima was traveling east in the westbound lanes, for reasons still unknown.

As a result, the two vehicles collided. Upon impact, both vehicles immediately caught on fire.

Responding firefighters eventually rescued both drivers from their vehicles before anyone was engulfed in the flames.

Paramedics rushed the female driver of the Altima and the male driver of the other car to a local hospital with unspecified injuries.

Meanwhile, California Highway Patrol officers are currently investigating whether the Altima’s driver was impaired when she drove the wrong way on the freeway.
