Fiery SUV-Big Rig Crash on Interstate 10, Just West of Hayfield Road Left 2 Fatalities

INDIO, CA (February 2, 2023) – Early Monday morning, a fiery big-rig crash on Interstate 10, near Chiriaco Summit, left two people dead. The incident happened on January 30th, at around 4:15 a.m., just west of Hayfield Road. According to reports, a Subaru was traveling in the westbound lanes of Interstate 10, when it became disabled. Shortly after, a big rig struck the Subaru from behind, pushing it into the center median, and causing it to catch fire. First responders to the site of the crash pronounced two occupants of the Subaru dead at the scene. At this time, it is unknown if alcohol or drugs played a role in the fatal incident. Officials are still investigating the crash.
