Would-be DJs all over the city know Mr. Choc and DJ Hapa from Rehab record store in West L.A., where they teach the fine art of turntablism for the Scratch DJ Academy. But watching these two spin in a club is a lesson in itself (and we’re talking real wax work, not programmed laptop tappin’). The pair’s popular Bridge night is a soulful Silver Lake staple, but their Funky Lemonade Friday at Zanzibar is worth a whirl to the Westside as well, especially when DJ dynamo pals pop in. New York’s DJ Riz (known for the slammin’ sounds he makes with partner Sizzahandz in the crew called the “Crooklyn Clan”) brings his hip-hop-poppin’, club-ready concoctions to the mix this week. Given his résumé of remixes for Sean Paul and Funkmaster Flex (plus an overseas record deal with Fatman Scoop), expect mad scratch fever and crowd-pleasing selections sure to give the ’Ade an extra tasty twist. Zanzibar, 1301 Fifth Ave., Santa Monica; Fri., Nov. 9, 9 p.m.-2 a.m.; over 21. $10 or $5 with RSVP before 10:30 p.m. (rsvpmenow@gmail.com).
