Reality shows, soap operas, sitcoms and live newscasts: None of these pop culture staples would exist without television. Like it or not, the so-called boob tube continues to reflect and define the American way of life, maybe even more than film does. The William S. Paley Television Festival, aka PaleyFest, celebrates the best of the small screen with two weeks of events showcasing some of the most dynamic series on TV today. The 31st extended fan fest delivers an impressive lineup, with hundreds of actors and creators behind the highest-rated and most critically acclaimed shows on television, including Parks and Recreation, Mad Men and How I Met Your Mother (marking its farewell season). This year's PaleyFest also features two reunion events: the 10th-anniversary celebration of Lost and a retrospective of Veronica Mars, just in time for the show's highly anticipated, crowd-funded movie adaptation. While TV is traditionally viewed privately (or at least semi-privately), PaleyFest offers us the rare chance to collectively experience some of our favorite shows in the company of our fellow fans. Dolby Theatre, 6801 Hollywood Blvd., Hlywd.; March 13-28, 7 p.m. (unless otherwise noted); individual tickets $25-$75; Paley members $15-$60.
