Chocolates on the bed, fruit baskets, iPod docks, free porn… yada, yada. Special little touches like these are nice when staying in a hotel, but after our tour of grand new Redbury in Hollywood last week, we think it takes the cake in hipster amenities.

Inside every red-hued, fancy yet retro-funky room is an old school touch that we've never seen before: vintage turntables and an assortment of vinyl to play on it. Being a music nerd, we couldn't resist checking to see if the selections cut the mustard.

Rick James, Billy Idol, The Specials, Pink Floyd, Beastie Boys and Kenny Loggins (!) made up the collection in the room we surveyed, all of which guests can take home with them for $20 each. (Never mind that you can find the same wax up the street at Amoeba for half the price [Ed's note: half the price? Kenny Loggins is a dollar bin mainstay!]).

Even with this week's news of The Walkman's impending demise, it seems the appeal of vinyl lives on stronger than ever, though its presence inside The Redbury is somewhat surprising. The hotel is the latest from SBE (nightlife Sam Nazarian's company, behind velvet rope/bottle service swank pits like Colony, Industry and high-priced eateries such as Katsuya and XIV).

No surprise, a photographer/music video director was involved in bringing in the more boho touches. Matthew Rolston (who shoots for Rolling Stone and Interview mags and has done clips for everyone from Garbage to Mary J Blige) helped design the place, which LA Times likens to a “Steampunk” hotel.

We thought it more '20's-inspired than Victorian era-influenced (especially the adjoining restaurant Cleo), but either way, there's no doubt the crimson palace — which stands right next to The Avalon on Vine — is the lodge of the moment. Word is, those who stay there score free entry to SBE's nearby clubs too. But don't expect to hear Kenny Loggins on the dance floor.

More the Redbury's opening in this week's Nightranger.
