Being hunkered down at home right now, the idea of a coastal road trip up the Camino Real to Los Alamos might seem like a distant fantasy. Until the corona fog lifts, you can still get a taste of the town — the culinary masters of “Little L.A.” are bringing some of their most delicious signature wares to The Mar Vista every Tuesday via Los Alamos Delivers.

Launched by Full of Life Foods owner Clark Staub and wife Jill Davie, owner of The Mar Vista, Davie makes the weekly trip to L.A. with limited items for pre-order from Bob’s Well Bread, Fullof Life Foods and Rancho San Julien Beef.

Bob’s Well Bread artisanal offerings include ciabatta, baguettes, sesame sourdough, rosemary olive oil, olive loaves, five seed multigrain, sprouted wheat, pain au chocolate, various croissants and his signature house made English muffins. Bob’s ordering info can be found on the restaurant’s social platforms.

Staub, whose restaurant in the little historic western town has been a fixture for 17 years, is offering a selection of frozen pizzas and whole wheat levain made in his tiled wood fire oven. It’s best to check the restaurant’s social platforms for up to date menu items — popular pizzas include red pepper and kalamata olives, sausage and mushroom, plain cheese and pepperoni with pistachios.

Also making the weekly trek in Davie’s lime green 1976 Westfalia are frozen ground beef and beef bones as well as local honey from Rancho San Julian, one of California’s oldest family-run grass fed cattle ranches in California.

“In mid March I made the very challenging and emotional decision to temporarily close The Mar Vista,” Davie tells L.A. Weekly. “After a hard week of breaking down, cleaning and trying to make sense of sensitive ingredients, I headed up to Los Alamos in Santa Barbara county to help my husband Clark. It felt like the right thing to do for so many reasons. Not only is social distancing a chosen life style up in California’s central coast, but he has a loyal following both up north and here in Los Angeles. At the same time, I really wanted to continue to connect and and serve my Mar Vista community. The drive gives me  time to reflect on life and all of its the challenges.”
