59-Year-Old Victim Killed in Pedestrian Accident near Indianola Cutoff

HUMBOLDT COUNTY, CA (May 25, 2022) – A pedestrian crash on Highway 101 killed 59-year-old Troy Rassbach, early Saturday morning.

The incident occurred around 3:30 a.m., just north of the Indianola Cutoff. For reasons unknown, Rassbach was walking along the lanes when he was hit by a 2010 Honda Pilot.

The Honda driver was later identified as 44-year-old Stephanie Mellen, of Eureka.

Despite life-saving efforts, the 59-year-old pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene due to the extent of their injuries.

Following preliminary duties, the California Highway Patrol claimed that alcohol and/or drugs did not contribute to the deadly incident.

At this time, Humboldt County Officials are asking anyone with information about the crash to contact CHP at (707) 822-5981 or (707) 268-2000. An active investigation is currently underway.
