Car Crashes into Train on Virginia and Gilman Streets

BERKELEY, CA (September 12, 2022) – Early Monday morning, police responded to a train accident between Virginia Street and Gilman Street.

The crash happened on September 5th, at about 12:22 a.m., when a train collided with an unoccupied vehicle.

According to police, the train suffered damage to its engine. As a result, it was stuck on the tracks blocking lanes at the intersections.

Police blocked off the area surrounding the crash while crews performed cleanup and preliminary duties. Afterward, Gilman Street, between Eastshore Highway and Sixth Street, was reopened by 9:00 a.m.

At this time, no further details have been provided. The Union Pacific Police Department is handling the investigations into the train accident between Virginia and Gilman Streets.
