If you're a fan of 21st-century movie music, you're probably well acquainted with Two Steps From Hell, the brainchild of composers Thomas Bergersen and Nick Phoenix, who got together in 2006 to write original music for movie trailers. Their amazing music has enhanced numerous blockbusters (The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, Lincoln, Oz the Great and Powerful) and their three albums of trailer music — Invincible, Archangel and Skyworld — have charted consistently in the top 100 on iTunes/Soundtracks for the past three years. Their music is pretty dang gorgeous: a rich, soaring fusion of pop and classical that could be described as Bach meets Lauridsen meets Thomas Newman. One of Two Steps' primary goals is to bring classical music to the younger generation, and they seem to have succeeded, with a huge and devoted fan base of early 20-somethings. You know you've reached 'em when you get YouTube comments like, “Dude, whatever you're smoking I want it.” But really, anyone who appreciates mesmerizing choral/orchestral work will be a fan. This week, Two Steps take their biggest step yet: their first live concert of their epic orchestral scores, performed by members of the L.A. Philharmonic, a 60-voice chorus and guest cellist Tina Guo. Sounds like two steps from heaven. Walt Disney Concert Hall, 111 S. Grand Ave., dwntwn.; Fri., June 14, 8 p.m.; $90-$140.
