Marty Grimes hails from the Bay Area, and has slowly but surely been keeping his fans happy by unleashing turn up records and of course, giving out pizza at his shows. Who doesn’t love pizza? Now, the Berkeley MC returns with his new single “Mentions,” after a two-year hiatus.

The cover art reveals a dark photo of Marty standing shirtless with his head down, embodying the vibe of the record. Anyone who follows his journey can appreciate his ability to unleash high-energy bops through introspective records centered around things we all go through in life.

On the chorus, he sings, “Sorry I’m not interested in your feelings, depending on your mood you’re so revealing / Watch out these hoes switch like intermissions / She just wanna be all in my mentions, but I fail to mention.”

Frequent collaborator Cody Benjamin produced the song, which has Marty reflecting on a recent incident where a groupie was on his nerves about tagging her in something on Instagram. Hence, “Mentions.” Anyone who’s active on social media can relate.
